So I've been chomping at the bit to do some fencing and see what I actually learned at the clinic. Last night was my first chance. We are doing scheduled painting and cleaning at the club this week to get everything ship shape for the new season, so we haven't had class or open fencing.
Well all in all I felt pretty good about my fencing. I definitely felt more confident. I am using my feet and parries for defense and it definitely helps. However, I really need to work on not planting my feet, especially the back one. Gavin was nice enough to point this out. Every time he got a touch he said he just waited for me to plant and then hit me. Also I still make my movements too big. This leads to my tip being totally not where I want it to be and hence lack of a riposte.
I also am aware that I am not always leading with my tip. I am totally aware that attacking with a bent arm and leading with my feet is REALLY STUPID! Why do I keep doing it.
All in all I am feeling good about my fencing and seeing results but there is always room for improvement.
